INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to change the port on which the GPOVault service listens in DesktopStandard GPOVault Enterprise 2.0.

MORE INFORMATION

By default, the port on which the GPOVault service listens is port 4600. You can change this port by manually modifying the GPOVault archive database file (Gpostate.xml).

Note We recommend that you back up the Gpostate.xml file before you modify the file. The file is located in the following folder on the GPOVault server:

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\DesktopStandard\GPOVault\Archive\

To change the port on which the GPOVault service listens, follow these steps.

Note If there are multiple archives in the domain, you must update the database file in each archive.

  1. Open the Gpostate.xml file in a text editor such as Notepad.
  2. Search for the following text:

    gpov:port="4600"

  3. Replace 4600 with the desired port number.
  4. Save and then close the file.
  5. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  6. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Services.
  7. Right-click GPOVault Service, and then click Restart to restart the GPOVault service.
  8. Instruct all Group Policy administrators to update the port number to match the new port that you have set. To update the port number for a domain, follow these steps:
    1. In the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC), click Forest, click Domains, click MyDomain, and then click Change Control.
    2. Click the Archive Location tab.
    3. Click to select Manually specify server address, enter the host name for the server that will host the archive, and then enter the updated port number.
    4. Click Apply.
