Error message when you connect a computer to a GPOVault archive location: “The operation cannot be completed because the GPOVault database version is invalid. Details: Invalid version: 20”

Article ID: 931039

Article Last Modified on 1/29/2007

APPLIES TO

  • GPOVault Enterprise 2.0

SYMPTOMS

When you connect a computer to a Desktop Standard GPOVault archive location, you may receive the following error message:

The operation cannot be completed because the GPOVault database version is invalid. Details: Invalid version: 20.

This issue occurs when the regional settings of the operating system specify that a comma be used to set off decimal places instead of a period.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because GPOVault incorrectly parses the version information from the XML file when the regional settings specify that a comma be used to set off decimal places.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use a text editor to change specific text in the Gpostate.xml file. To change the specific text in the Gpostate.xml file, follow these steps.

Note The Gpostate.xml file is stored in the archive location for GPOVault.

  1. Locate the following text in the Gpostate.xml file.

    GPOVault gpov:version="2.0"
  2. In the text, change the period to a comma, as follows.

    GPOVault gpov:version="2,0"
  3. Save and then close the file.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not occur in later versions of GPOVault. Therefore, if you upgrade to a later version, you must change the comma to a period in the Gpostate.xml file.
