You receive an error message that states that a machine policy was not applied when you use PolicyMaker Software Update 1.0 or 2.0

SYMPTOMS

When you use Desktop Standard PolicyMaker Software Update 1.0 or 2.0, the following error message is logged in the Application log:

The machine policy "update number and description" in "GPO name {GPO GUID}" was not applied because it failed with error code "0x8007007b The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." This error was suppressed.

Note In this error message, the word "filename" is a misspelling for the words "file name."

CAUSE

This problem occurs because some new Microsoft updates use a format that is not supported by PolicyMaker Software Update 1.0 and 2.0.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the updated version of PolicyMaker Software Update from the following Desktop Standard FTP site:
