SYMPTOMS
After you apply Service Pack 3 for Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting on a multiuser client computer, users on the multiuser client computer may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
- Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) is not installed on the multiuser client.
- A user who is using Small Business Accounting on the multiuser client is not a member of the Administrators group.
A user may not be a member of the Administrators group, and the user may be using Small Business Accounting on the multiuser client. In this case, an update in Small Business Accounting Service Pack 3 queries the local instance of MSDE for Small Business.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Reinstall MSDE on the client. Then, disable the MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ service.
Note When you disable the MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ service, it affects the computer exactly the same way as when you remove the MSDE instance. The only difference is that hard disk space is used when MSDE is installed, whereas hard disk space is not used when MSDE is not installed.
Method 2
Grant Administrator rights to the user who has to log on to the multiuser client.
Note If you grant Administrator rights to a user, the user will also have Administrator rights to the network. Therefore, you must assess the security risks before you grant these rights.
