Only the first detected Autorun.exe file runs when more than one storage card contains an Autorun.exe file on Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC-based devices and on Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC-based devices

Article ID: 930777

Article Last Modified on 1/24/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

On Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC-based devices and on Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC-based devices, only the first detected Autorun.exe file runs when more than one storage card contains an Autorun.exe file.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC and Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC do not support running Autorun.exe on multiple storage cards at the same time.

MORE INFORMATION

On Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC-based devices and on Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC-based devices, the operating system enumerates all the available storage cards and only runs the first detected Autorun.exe file. This behavior occurs even when more than one storage card contains an Autorun.exe file.

Some Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have added support for running Autorun.exe on multiple storage cards at the same time. Therefore, you may not experience this issue on some Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC-based devices and Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC-based devices.

Note Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC supports running Autorun.exe on multiple storage cards at the same time.
