For a Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 version of this article, see 936681.

SYMPTOMS

When you use 10 or more breakpoints to debug an application that is built by using Microsoft Visual C++, the application and the debugger may start more slowly than expected in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. Additionally, messages that indicate that a module has been loaded in the application are slow to appear.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the application has many unresolved breakpoints in many modules. Breakpoints are unresolved when you set breakpoints in dynamic link library (DLL) files.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio 2005 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
