INTRODUCTION

This article describes problems that may occur when you view Distinct Count aggregations in the decomposition tree in ProClarity Desktop Professional 6.2 or in ProClarity Desktop Professional 6.1. You experience the most effective results when you view Sum aggregations in the decomposition tree.

MORE INFORMATION

Many aggregation types are available in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services for basic measures, such as the Sum and Distinct Count aggregations. You can use the decomposition tree to view these aggregations.

Distinct Count aggregations may not provide consistent information when you display results. The other aggregations work with the decomposition tree. However, the decomposition tree view is designed to work most effectively with Sum aggregations.

Potential problems may occur if you use the decomposition tree to view Distinct Count aggregations. Specifically, when you use a Distinct Count measure together with the decomposition tree, you may notice blank nodes for the top and bottom nodes in the decomposition tree view. Additionally, measures that do not aggregate as a sum may show differences between the following values:

  • The percentages that appear in the decomposition tree
  • The percentages that appear in the Pareto chart

For example, you may experience the following behavior if you view an average measure:

  • In the decomposition tree, the percentages that appear in expanded nodes only show percentages at that node level.
  • In the Pareto chart, the percentages that appear in expanded nodes show percentages that are calculated from all nodes.
