APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SoftGrid for Terminal Services
  • Microsoft SoftGrid for Windows Desktops

SYMPTOMS

When you connect to the SoftGrid Management Web Service server from the SoftGrid Management Console, the connection is unsuccessful. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

Unable to log into the SoftGrid System.
The specified user is not authorized to administer this system.
Error code: 0000C803

CAUSE

This issue may occur if one or both of the following conditions are true:

  • The user is not a member of the SoftGrid Administrator Group.
  • A database row was not updated when you upgraded from SoftGrid 3.0.0.329 Beta2 to the original release version.
  • The SoftGrid Administrator Group is a Local Group.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: Verify that the user is a member of the SoftGrid Administrator Group

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. In the SoftGrid Management Console, locate the Connect to SoftGrid System dialog box or the Configure Connection dialog box.
  2. Verify that the Login Credentials option is set to Use Current Windows Account.
  3. Verify that the user who is logged on is a member of the SoftGrid Administrator Group.

Method 2: Manually update a database row

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Start SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
  2. Locate the Softricity database.
  3. Locate the ROLE_ASSIGNMENTS table.
  4. On the list, click Open Rows, and then click Return all Rows.
  5. Change the LDAP:// address to DOMAINNAME\MySoftGridAdminGroupName.
  6. Restart the server on which the Webmanagement service is installed.

Alternatively, use Task Manager to stop the aspnet_ws process.

Important If you use Task Manager to stop the aspnet_ws process, unexpected results may occur.

Method 3: Examine the group that is used for the SoftGrid Administrators Group

Make sure that the group that is being used for the SoftGrid Administrators Group is a Domain Global group and not a Local Group.
