SYMPTOMS

When you run the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) service in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 organization, the Inetinfo.exe process may unexpectedly stop responding on Exchange Server front-end servers.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a race condition in heavily loaded environments.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
