INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to enable the DVD Library feature in Windows Media Center on a Windows Vista-based computer.

Note In Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, DVD content that is stored on the hard disk appears in the My Videos folder. Windows Media Center on a Windows Vista-based computer displays DVD content in a DVD gallery. However, the DVD Gallery is not automatically enabled in Windows Media Center on a Windows Vista-based computer.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.To enable the DVD Gallery, follow these steps:

  1. Exit Windows Media Center if it is running.
  2. Click Start[GRAPHIC: Start button], type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

    [GRAPHIC: User Account Control permission ] If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\DvdSettings

  4. In the results pane, right-click ShowGallery, and then click Modify.
  5. Delete the contents that appear in the Value data box, type Gallery in the Value data box, and then click OK.
  6. Exit Registry Editor.
