SYMPTOMS

You try to connect to the Microsoft SoftGrid Management Web Service from the Microsoft SoftGrid Management Console. However, the attempt is not successful, and you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Unable to contact the SoftGrid System.
Check your network connections and make sure the host name and port are correct.
Error code: 0000C802

CAUSE

This problem can occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  • The port that is specified is invalid.
  • The World Wide Web Publishing Service is not running.
  • The Default Web Site is not running.


RESOLUTION

Use one or more of the following methods to resolve this problem, as appropriate for your situation.

The port that is specified is invalid

Determine on what port the Web server is listening. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to the SoftGrid Management Web Service server.
  2. From Administrative Tools, start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  3. Expand Internet Information Services, expand SERVERNAME, and then expand Default Web Site.
  4. Right-click Default Web Site, and then click Properties.
  5. Click the Web Site tab.
  6. The port is listed in the TCP port box under Web site identification.

Determine with which port the SoftGrid Management Console is connecting. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. From Administrative Tools, start SoftGrid Management Console.
  2. Right-click SoftGrid Systems, and then click Connect to SoftGrid System.
  3. The port is listed in the Port box.

The World Wide Web Publishing Service is not running

Determine whether the World Wide Web Publishing Service is running. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to the SoftGrid Management Web Service server.
  2. From Administrative Tools, start Services.
  3. Right-click World Wide Web Publishing Service, and then click Properties.
  4. If the Service status is Stopped, the service is not running. To start the service, click Start.

The Default Web Site is not running

Determine whether the Default Web Site is running. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to the SoftGrid Management Web Service server.
  2. From Administrative Tools, start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  3. Expand Internet Information Services, expand SERVERNAME, and then expand Default Web Site.
  4. Right-click Default Web Site. If Start is available, the site is not running. To start Default Web Site, click Start.
