Error message when you administer the Account Authority from the SoftGrid Management Console: "Unable to log into the Account Authority specified"

Article ID: 930428

Article Last Modified on 3/14/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SoftGrid for Terminal Services
  • Microsoft SoftGrid for Windows Desktops

SYMPTOMS

When you administer the Account Authority from the SoftGrid Management Console, you may receive the following error message:

Unable to log into the Account Authority specified.
Please check the Account Authority configuration and credentials.
Error code: 0000B04C
Do you wish to ignore the error and continue?

Additionally, one of the following error messages is logged in the SoftGrid Management Console log file (Sftmmc.log):

Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password

The server is not operational

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • The Account Authority cannot be validated.
  • The SoftGrid Management Console is not in the same domain as the Account Authority.

MORE INFORMATION

When you click Apply or OK in the Properties dialog box in the Account Authority, the SoftGrid Management Console tries to validate the domain name, the user name, and the password. When the domain name is unavailable, or when the domain name, the user name, or the password are typed incorrectly, you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

The user name can be typed in the following formats.

Format Example Supported in Active Directory? Supported in Windows NT 4.0 domain?
User name SGBrowser Yes Yes
Domain name\User name SGDomain\SGBrowser Yes Yes
User_name@Domain_name SGBrowser@SGDomain.int Yes No

Note If the SoftGrid environment consists of a trust relationship between the Active Directory directory service and a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domain, the "User_name@Domain_name" format cannot be used. If this format is used, the SoftGrid Management Console cannot manage Microsoft Windows groups from the Windows NT 4.0 domain.

If the SoftGrid Management Console is not in the same domain as the Account Authority, you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section. If the domain name, the user name, and the password were typed correctly, click Yes when you receive the error message. Then, stop and then restart the SoftGrid Virtual Application Server service.

If the domain name, the user name, and the password were not typed correctly, the service will not start.
