SYMPTOMS

In Windows Internet Explorer 7, you click a file. Then, on the File menu, you click Save As. When you do this, a truncated or changed version of the original file name appears in the Save As dialog box.

You experience this problem if the name of the file that you want to save contains characters from a multibyte character set (MBCS).

Note You also experience this problem when you right-click the file and then click Save Target As.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Windows Internet Explorer 7 incorrectly handles MBCS characters and %-escaped characters.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the hotfix version of the files that are in the latest cumulative security update for Windows Internet Explorer 7. Note This hotfix is included in security update 928090 (MS07-016). It is also included in later cumulative security updates for Windows Internet Explorer 7.
