SYMPTOMS
Attempting to compile a program that contains errors which cause many severe compile time errors, results in the BC.EXE compiler reporting an R6001 "Null pointer assignment" run-time error, and terminating immediately after reporting the severe errors.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Standard and Professional Editions of Microsoft Visual Basic for MS-DOS, version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
Correcting the errors in the source code which are causing the compile time errors allows the BC.EXE compiler to compile the program normally.
