SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Office Excel 2007 to create a large PivotTable, the operation may take longer than expected.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if many formatting options are enabled in Excel 2007. Excel 2007 must perform many update operations for each formatting feature that is enabled. These formatting features include the following:

  • Worksheet styles such as level two subheadings
  • Column auto fit
  • Sorting
  • Custom lists


WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior and to speed PivotTable creation in Excel 2007, turn off formatting features in Excel 2007. For more information about how to change formatting options in a PivotTable report, visit the following Microsoft Web sites:
