Known issues

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have Windows Internet Explorer 7 installed on the computer, and you have the Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 version of hotfix 929969 installed on the computer.
  • You successfully install the Internet Explorer 7 version of hotfix 929969.
  • Then, you try to remove the Internet Explorer 7 version of hotfix 929969.

In this scenario, you cannot remove the Internet Explorer 7 version of hotfix 929969.

Cause

  • Before you install the Internet Explorer 7 version of hotfix 929969

When you examine Add or Remove Programs, you find only Internet Explorer 7. This expected behavior. Internet Explorer 7 hides the Internet Explorer 6 version of hotfix 929969 in Add or Remove Programs.

  • When you install Internet Explorer 7 version of hotfix 929969

When you successfully install the Internet Explorer 7 version of hotfix 929969 successfully, it is considered a reinstall of the same package as the Internet Explorer 6 version of hotfix 929969. However, the Internet Explorer 6 version of hotfix 929969 is still on the computer, it is only hidden. This is because the Add or Remove Programs registry keys contain information for Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7.

  • When you try to remove the Internet Explorer 7 version of hotfix 929969

When you install the Internet Explorer 7 version of hotfix 929969, the release version of Internet Explorer 7's Vgx.dll file is not retained. Then, hotfix 929969 for Internet Explorer 7's Vgx.dll file is installed. Therefore, when you try to remove the Internet Explorer 7 version of hotfix 929969, the removal fails.
