SYMPTOMS
When you try to play a DVD in Windows Media Center on a Windows Vista-based computer, the DVD does not play. Additionally, the screen remains black.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the DVD does not contain a First Play Program Chain (PGC) in the First Play domain of the disc. This problem occurs because Windows Media Center Edition 2005 does not support DVDs that do not contain the First Play PGC.
This problem occurs most frequently when you try to play a DVD that has been recorded by a home DVD recorder. Most professionally manufactured DVDs contain the First Play PGC.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, play the DVD on a third-party DVD player.

The First Play PGC is the first thing that a DVD drive or a DVD player looks for when you insert a DVD. Typically, the First Play PGC is used to link to the first video clip such as the FBI warning message or the title menu of the movie.
