  • Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

  • You are running Windows Media Center on a Windows Vista-based computer.
  • You put the computer into hibernation.

After you resume from hibernation, the Windows Media Center window is black. Additionally, if Windows Media Center was running in full-screen mode when you put the computer into hibernation, the whole screen is black after you resume from hibernation.

Note Hibernation is also known as the S4 state.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  • There is a problem with the basic input/output system (BIOS). In this situation, the BIOS prevents Windows from:
    • Recognizing that a user is interacting with the computer.
    • Turning on the display when the computer resumes from hibernation.
  • A problem with the video driver prevents the display from turning on when you resume the computer from hibernation.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, perform the following procedures:

  • Check with the manufacturer of the computer for an updated BIOS.
  • Check with the manufacturer of the computer's video adapter for an updated video driver.

WORKAROUND

To restore the Windows Media Center window, use one of the following methods:

  • Press any button on the remote control, such as the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW button.
  • Press any key on the keyboard.
  • Click anywhere on the screen.
