MORE INFORMATION

To perform a clean installation of the Zune software, follow these steps.

Step 1: Remove the Zune software

To remove the Zune software, follow these steps:

  1. If the Zune device is connected to the computer, disconnect the device.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  3. In the Add or Remove Programs window, click Zune, and then click Remove.
  4. Click Yes to remove the Zune software.
  5. If the following software also appears in the Add or Remove Programs window, remove that software by following the procedure in steps 3 and 4:
    • Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack 1.0
    • Windows Driver Package – Microsoft WPD
    • Windows Media Format 11 SDK
    • Windows Portable Devices
Note If you receive an error message that states that there are program dependencies that are blocking the removal of the software, do not remove the software. Both the Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack 1.0 and the Windows Driver Package – Microsoft WPD will be reinstalled by the Zune Setup program. If you must have the Windows Media Format 11 SDK installed, reinstall it from the MSDN Windows Media Developer Center Web site after you install the Zune software.
  6. Open drive C on the computer, and then open the Program Files folder.

Note If it is required, click Show the contents of this folder.

  7. Locate the folder that is named "Zune," right-click the folder, and then click Delete.

    • Process WIN.INI File
    • Load Startup Items

  5. Click OK, and then click Restart.

Step 3: Empty the Windows temporary folder

To empty the Windows temporary folder, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type %temp%, and then click OK.
  2. Click Edit, and then click Select All.
  3. Click File, and then click Delete. You receive the following message:
