SYMPTOMS

When you try to uninstall Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) by using the installation file, error 33088 occurs, and you cannot uninstall Visual Studio 2005 SP1.

Note This problem occurs only when Visual Studio 2005 Team Test Load Agent is installed on the computer that has Visual Studio 2005 installed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an error in the installation file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, uninstall Visual Studio 2005 SP1 by using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. In Control Panel, right-click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Open.
  2. Click Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1, and then click Remove.

Note You can also resolve this problem by uninstalling the Visual Studio 2005 Team Test Load Agent components from the computer before you try to uninstall Visual Studio 2005 SP1. The Visual Studio 2005 Team Test Load Agent components are small components. The uninstallation and the reinstallation of the components should take only about 90 seconds for each operation.

This problem also occurs in the Japanese version of Visual Studio 2005 SP1.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and that has Visual Studio 2005 installed, install Visual Studio 2005 Team Test Load Agent.
  2. Install Visual Studio 2005 SP1.
  3. Try to uninstall Visual Studio 2005 SP1 by using the installation file.
