APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Windows XP Embedded and Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Advanced Client for XP Embedded on a device, you cannot do the following:

  • Connect to the Windows XP Embedded device by using Remote Assistance
  • Use SMS 2003 to scan the Windows XP Embedded device for software information

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Group Policy Core Administration snap-in component and the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Tools component are missing from the "SMS Advanced Client Prerequisites (Recommended)" macro. The "SMS Advanced Client Prerequisites (Recommended)" macro is contained in the Smsadvancedclient.sld file.

RESOLUTION

After you apply this hotfix, the Group Policy Core Administration snap-in component and the WMI Tools component are added to the Component Dependendency node in the "SMS Advanced Client Prerequisites (Recommended)" macro. Additionally, the Windows XP Embedded database is updated to include the added dependencies. This hotfix lets you create a Windows XP Embedded operating system image that can be deployed on embedded devices.
