SUMMARY

This article describes the Zune device equalizer that is found on the Zune 30GB device. This article also describes how to change the equalizer setting.

Note The Zune 4GB, Zune 8GB, and Zune 80GB do not have the equalizer feature.

MORE INFORMATION

The Zune 30GB has a five-band equalizer. The equalizer changes the frequency response of the audio that you play from audio files, from video files, and from the Zune device interface. It does not affect FM radio sounds.

To change the equalizer setting, follow these steps:

  1. From the home screen, select Settings, and then press the center of the Zune pad.
  2. Select music, and then press the center of the Zune pad.
  3. Select equalizer, and then press the center of the Zune pad until the equalizer lists the setting that you want to use.

The following equalizer settings are available:

  • None
  • Acoustic
  • Classical
  • Electronic
  • Hip hop
  • Jazz
  • Pop
  • Rock

The following table lists the number of decibels (dB) by which each frequency band in the equalizer is boosted or reduced for each setting.

Setting 105 Hz band 300 Hz band 850 Hz band 2.4 kHz band 6.9 kHz band
None 0 0 0 0 0
Acoustic 6.0 -2.0 0 0 3.0
Classical 5.0 0 0 0 2.0
Electronic 4.0 3.0 -1.5 2.0 4.0
Hip hop 6.5 -3.0 2.0 0 4.0
Jazz 0 2.0 1.0 2.0 3.0
Pop 3.6 -0.5 1.5 -0.5 2.7
Rock 0.8 3.8 -1.5 -1.0 3.0

Legend: Hz = Hertz; kHz = kilohertz

Currently, the Zune device rounds the decibel change down to a whole number. Depending on the setting, this rounding may result in a small difference between what is represented in this table and what you hear. This is a known issue with the Zune device.
