SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

  • On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computer, an external device is connected to a host bus adapter (HBA).
  • This device is suddenly disconnected while it is still busy.

In this scenario, you receive a Stop error message that may resemble the following:


Stop: 0000008E (Parameter1, Parameter2, Parameter3, Parameter4)

Note The specifics of this Stop error message vary.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Disk.sys driver incorrectly releases resources for the disconnected device.

RESOLUTION
