Error message when you sign in to your Zune account: “Name change required”

SYMPTOMS

When you sign in to your Zune account, you receive the following error message:

Name change required

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you are an Xbox customer, if you use the same Windows Live ID for your Zune account and for your Xbox account, and if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  • A name change is required for the account.
  • A user who is associated with the Windows Live ID is banned.
  • A user who is associated with the Windows Live ID requires management.


THINGS TO TRY

  1. Change your gamertag by using your Xbox 360 console.

    Note You cannot complete this action by using the Zune software or by visiting the Xbox.com Web site.
