SYMPTOMS

On a Windows XP SP2-based computer that is running Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX 3.5, when you enable Data Execution Prevention (DEP), Interix applications crash.

Note This problem also occurs on Windows Server 2003 systems that are running Windows Services for UNIX 3.5.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because some executable codes that the Interix applications add in the stack are stopped when DEP is enabled.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that this article describes. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
