SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computers and Microsoft Windows XP-based computers that are set to the West Australia time zone do not change to daylight saving time on December 3, 2006.
Note The display name of the West Australia time zone in the Date and Time Properties dialog box is (GMT+08:00) Perth.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the State of West Australia has recently introduced daylight saving time on a trial basis for the next three years. The trial will start at 2:00 A.M. on December 3, 2006. The West Australia time zone in Windows Server 2003 and in Windows XP is not configured to change to daylight saving time on December 3, 2006.
RESOLUTION

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.

The West Australia time zone will use the following transition schedule for daylight saving time in 2007:
- Clocks will be turned back by one hour at 2 A.M. on March 25, 2007 to become standard time.
- Clocks will be advanced by one hour at 2 A.M. on December 3, 2007 to become daylight saving time.

The update modifies the existing time zone in the registry to reflect the official 2006 daylight saving time transition date for the West Australia time zone as identified in the table.
Notes
- If Automatic Updates is enabled on the computer and if the computer is set to one of the five Australian time zones, you do not have to take any additional action. The update is available from Automatic Updates starting on December 12, 2006.
- The update for the West Australia time zone that is described in this article is not included in the 2007 time zone update for Microsoft Windows operating systems that will be released on December 12, 2006. The West Australia time zone change was passed into law after the 2007 time zone update for Microsoft Windows operating systems was created. We recommend that you install both updates to make sure that you have the most current time zone data on the computer.
