Xbox 360: The download speed slows and you receive an error message when you use Progressive Playback to view a video from the Xbox Live Video Marketplace

Article ID: 929106

Article Last Modified on 12/5/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Xbox Live
  • Microsoft XBox 360 Video Game System

SYMPTOMS

When you use Progressive Playback to view a video as the video is downloading from the Xbox Live Video Marketplace, the download speed slows and you receive the following error message:

Can’t play this video while it’s downloading. This may be because of network problems. Wait for the download to finish and try playing it again.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you experience inconsistent download speeds.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. If you experience inconsistent download speeds, wait for the download to finish before you try to view the video.

MORE INFORMATION

When you use Progressive Playback to view a video as the video is downloading from the Xbox Live Video Marketplace, a calculation is performed to estimate whether the download will finish before the video playback has finished. This calculation is based on the current speed of the download. A buffer is maintained between the download point and the playback point to allow for the video to play uninterrupted. If the download speed slows, playback can “catch up” to the download point. If you experience this behavior, wait for the download to progress before you start the video playback again.
