SYMPTOMS

You may unexpectedly receive an error message when the select function is called in Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 or in Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications in Windows Server 2003 R2. This problem occurs if the select function receives null file descriptor parameters. The error message resembles the following:

Start: 1165265121
select: Bad address
Stop: 1165265121

CAUSE

Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 or Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications in Windows Server 2003 R2 cannot validate the select function if the function receives null file descriptor values.

RESOLUTION

You must restart the computer because the POSIX subsystem is replaced when you apply this hotfix.
