SYMPTOMS

As you try to use your Zune device, the device appears to be nonfunctional. You receive the following error message:

On your PC, open the Zune software and restore the Zune device firmware.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the Zune device enters a recovery mode and requires that the Zune device software be restored.

THINGS TO TRY

Connect the Zune device to a computer that has the current Zune software installed, and then update the device to the current device software.
