The date that appears on your Zune device for a video differs from the date in your Zune library

Article ID: 928652

Article Last Modified on 12/17/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Zune Digital Media Player
  • Zune software

SYMPTOMS

You experience one of the following symptoms:

  • After you select a video to play or to watch on your Zune device and then press the center of the Zune pad to receive more information, the date that appears for the video differs from the date in your Zune library.
  • When you view pictures and then select View by date, some pictures may appear in folders other than the folders in which you expect the pictures to appear.

Note On the Zune device, picture folders are organized by date.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the date on the computer differs from the date on your Zune device.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. This behavior is by design. The Zune device is functioning correctly.

MORE INFORMATION

The date on the Zune device is based on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). However, depending on your location, you may have the date on the computer set to a different time zone.

Note Coordinated Universal Time is the current internationally accepted name for Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

For example, if the creation time for a file is 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time, the corresponding time in UTC is 01:00 (that is, 1:00 A.M.) the next day. Similarly, if the creation time for a file is 5:00 P.M. Pacific Time, the corresponding time in UTC is 01:00 (that is, 1:00 A.M.) the next day. Therefore, the times that appear on the device and the times that appear in the software will differ if each one reflects a different time zone.

Note This effect can also apply to a difference in the month or in the year. For example, if a file is created on the last day of a month or year, the file may appear together with a date for the following month or year.
