SYMPTOMS
After you install the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Summary Reporting Pack, you receive error messages when you try to run the following reports.
- Report name: Alert Resolution Time Analysis (Daily)
- Report name: Number of Alerts Analysis (Daily)
- Report name: Number of Alerts Analysis Details (Daily)
- Report name: Performance Counter Analysis (Daily)
You do not receive an error message when you run other reports from the MOM 2005 Summary Reporting Pack.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the Select permission is not assigned to the SC DW Reader database role for the TimeIntervals table.
Note Depending on which database that you use to generate reports in MOM 2005, the TimeIntervals table is located in the SystemCenterReporting database or in the SystemCenterPresentation database.
In MOM 2005, the SC DW DTS database role is assigned to the MOM Data Transfer Account. Also, the SC DW Reader database role is assigned to the MOM Reporting user account. MOM 2005 uses the MOM Reporting user account to run reports. MOM 2005 does not use the MOM Data Transfer account to run reports. Therefore, if the Select permission is not assigned to the SC DW Reader database role for the TimeIntervals table, you experience the symptoms that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, grant the Select permission to the SC DW Reader database role for the TimeIntervals table. Also, verify that the user who generates the reports is a member of the SC DW Reader local group. To do this, follow these steps.
Step 1: Grant the Select permission to the SC DW Reader database role for the TimeIntervals table
- Start the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio tool.
- Expand Databases, expand SystemCenterReporting, and then expand Tables.
Note If the TimeIntervals table is located in the SystemCenterPresentation database, expand SystemCenterPresentation instead of SystemCenterReporting.
- Under Tables, right-click dbo.TimeIntervals, and then click Properties.
- In the Table Properties-TimeIntervals dialog box, click Permissions.
- If SC DW Reader does not appear in the Users or roles list, click Add, type sc dw reader in the Select Users or Roles dialog box, click Check Names, and then click OK.
- Click SC DW Reader, and then click to select the Grant check box that corresponds to the Select permission.
- Click OK, and then exit the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio tool.
Step 2: Verify the membership of the SC DW Reader local group
- Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
- In the Computer Management Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, expand Local Users and Groups, and then click Groups.
- In the results pane, right-click SC DW Reader, and then click Properties.
Important The SC DW Readers group also appears in the results pane. Do not right-click the SC DW Readers group.
- In the SC DW Reader Properties dialog box, verify that the appropriate user accounts are listed in the Members list, and then click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
