APPLIES TO

  • Zune Digital Media Player
  • Zune Live
  • Zune software

SYMPTOMS

When you use your 14-day trial subscription, you can sign in to your Zune account. However, you cannot download content from Zune Marketplace.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when your 14-day trial subscription has expired.

Note The 14-day trial was a limited offer that is no longer being continued. Current trial codes can still be redeemed, but the trial codes are not included in our current packaging.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Determine whether your subscription has expired. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open the Zune software.
    2. Click Sign In.
    3. Type your Windows Live ID and password, and then click Sign In.
    4. Click Settings, click Account, and then click My Account.
These steps take you to the My Account page on which you can view the status of your 14-day trial subscription and the applicable expiration date.
  2. If your 14-day trial subscription has expired, and you want to continue to use Zune Marketplace, you can sign up for a Zune Pass Subscription. Alternatively, you can use your existing Zune account to purchase music by using Microsoft Points.
    • Music subscription

A music subscription lets you rent music from Zune Marketplace for a monthly fee. For the length of your subscription, you can download and play an unlimited number of songs and then sync them to two Zune devices. Songs that are downloaded as part of a subscription cannot be burned to a CD.

To purchase a monthly music subscription, follow these steps:
      1. Click Sign In.
      2. Type your Windows Live ID and password, and then click Sign In.

Note If you cannot sign in to Zune Marketplace because you do not have a Zune account, click Create a new account to create a new account.

      3. Click Settings, click Account, and then click Zune Pass.
      4. Follow the instructions to purchase a monthly music subscription.
    • Microsoft Points

You can use Microsoft Points to buy songs and albums from Zune Marketplace. To do this, follow these steps:
      1. Click Sign In.
      2. Type your Windows Live ID and password, and then click Sign In.

Note If you cannot sign in to Zune Marketplace because you do not have a Zune account, click Create a new account to create a new account.

      3. Click Settings, click Account, and then click Buy Points.
      4. Follow the instructions for buying Microsoft Points.
