CAUSE
This problem occurs because the SQL Server 2000 IA-64 hotfix installer cannot access the original installation media that you used to install SQL Server 2000.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, make sure that the SQL Server 2000 IA-64 hotfix installer can access the original installation media before you uninstall a SQL Server 2000 IA-64 hotfix. For example, if you installed SQL Server 2000 by using the CD-ROM, you must insert the CD-ROM into the CD drive.
Additionally, the path of the original installation media is located in the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\Product Code\SourceList\LastUsedSource
NoteProduct Code
is a placeholder for the product code for the SQL Server 2000 installation. The Product Code
registry subkey contains the ProductName registry entry. To locate the specific Product Code
registry subkey, search for the ProductName registry entry that has the value of "Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (InstanceName
)" under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\
registry subkey.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
