Article ID: 928313

Article Last Modified on 3/15/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Windows Vista Business
  • Windows Vista Enterprise
  • Windows Vista Home Basic
  • Windows Vista Home Premium
  • Windows Vista Ultimate
  • Windows Vista Enterprise 64-bit edition
  • Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit edition
  • Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition
  • Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition
  • Windows Vista Starter

SYMPTOMS

In some versions of Windows Vista, when you open the Speech Recognition Options item in Control Panel, the user interface items are not in the correct language. Additionally, no configuration features are available under Configure your Speech Recognition experience. Therefore, you cannot configure the Speech Recognition feature.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the version of Windows Vista is not one of the following:

  • The U.S. English version
  • The United Kingdom English version
  • The French version
  • The German version
  • The Spanish version
  • The Japanese version
  • The Chinese Traditional version
  • The Chinese Simplified version

Speech Recognition is available only in these versions of Windows Vista. However, because of the way in which the Speech Recognition feature is built into Windows Vista, this feature cannot be removed from versions of Windows Vista for which Speech Recognition is unavailable.
