SUMMARY

This article describes the graphic file formats that are supported by the Zune software. This article also describes how to add images to your library and synchronize (sync) the images with your Zune device.

MORE INFORMATION

The Zune software can import JPEG (.jpg) graphic files into the picture library from a Zune device. The Zune software does not support other image file formats, such as .gifs or .tiffs. Therefore, you cannot add these types of files to the library or sync these types of files together with a Zune device.

Add images to the library on your Zune device

During the installation of the Zune software, you decide whether you want to let the Zune software to add pictures from your Zune device to your library automatically.

If you decided not to add pictures to your library during the installation, you can configure the Zune software to import your pictures. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Start the Zune software.
  2. Click Options, and then click Add Folder to Library. A list of folders appears that the Zune software currently monitors for new media files.
  3. To modify the list of monitored folders, use the following guidelines:
    • To add a new folder to the list, click Add Folder, and then select the folder that you want to add.

Note If you add a folder that is located on a removable drive and the drive is no longer available, the Zune software automatically removes the content in that folder from your library.

    • To remove a folder from the list, select the folder, and then click Remove Folder.
    • To stop the Zune software from monitoring a folder that was automatically added, select the folder from the list, and then click Ignore.

Sync images to your Zune device

You can sync any image from your Zune library to your Zune device.

Note Some images may be converted to a quality level that is optimized for playback on the Zune device. This conversion process does not affect the original files that are stored on the computer.
