Error message when you open a multi-user company file that is on a network computer in Accounting Professional or in Small Business Accounting 2006: "This company is on a remote machine, it needs to be upgraded"

SYMPTOMS

When you open a multi-user company file that is on a network computer in Microsoft Office Accounting Professional or in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006, you receive the following error message:

This company is on a remote machine, it needs to be upgraded. Please go to the main database computer and upgrade it.

For example, when you open the companyname_multiuser.sbc file, you receive the error message.

Note The companyname placeholder represents an actual computer name.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the multi-user company file is on a network computer that is running an Accounting Professional service pack or a Small Business Accounting 2006 service pack that differs from the service pack that is running on the client computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the latest Accounting Professional or Small Business Accounting 2006 service pack on all computers that have Accounting Professional or Small Business Accounting 2006 installed. To do this, click Check for Updates on the Help menu, and then apply the latest Accounting Professional service pack or the latest Small Business Accounting 2006 service pack.
