APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
- Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
SYMPTOMS
When you try to use Windows Internet Explorer 7 to open a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 document library, the document library does not open successfully. Additionally, you do not receive an error message. This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
- You are using a custom port.
- The document library contains a URL that uses an Internationalized Domain Name (IDN), and the IDN contains non-ASCII characters.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 cannot resolve a URL in which the domain name contains non-ASCII characters if you are using a custom port.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, use the default port (80) if a URL contains non-ASCII characters.
MORE INFORMATION
An IDN is a domain name that can use non-ASCII characters. IDNs enable users and companies to create domain names in their native language. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) published the IDN standard in March 2004.
