APPLIES TO

  • ProClarity Analytic Server
  • ProClarity Dashboard Server
  • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) on a computer that has ProClarity Analytics Server and ProClarity Dashboard Server installed, you experience the following problems:

  • When you start the Analytics Server Administration Tool, you receive the following error message:

Could not connect to server. Possible reasons:
    -Incorrect server name
    -Invalid access credentials
-ProClarity Analytics Server is not installed and running.

  • When you browse the Analytics Server Web site, you receive the following error message:

    Page not found

  • When you visit the ProClarity Dashboard Server Web site, you receive the following error message:

    Page can not be displayed

Additionally, if you try to install Analytics Server or ProClarity Dashboard Server on a computer that has Windows XP SP2 installed, you receive the following error message:

failed to initialize IIS

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Windows XP SP2 introduces additional security features, such as Windows Firewall. By default, the Analytics Server virtual directory uses port number 80. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) uses port number 443. The required ports are blocked after the Windows XP SP2 installation.

Note We do not recommend that you install Analytics Server and ProClarity Dashboard Server on a Windows XP-based computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must reopen the ports for the Analytics Server standard clients and for the Analytics Server professional clients. To do this, use one of the following methods.

Turn off Windows Firewall

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Network Connections.
  3. Right-click the connection that you use to connect to the current network, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. Under Windows Firewall, click Settings. The Windows Firewall dialog box appears.
  6. In the Windows Firewall dialog box, click Off (not recommended).
  7. Click OK.

Add port exceptions for Analytics Server

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Network Connections.
  3. Right-click the connection that you use to connect to the current network, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. Under Windows Firewall, click Settings. The Windows Firewall dialog box appears.
  6. In the Windows Firewall dialog box, click the Exceptions tab.
  7. Click Add Port. The Add a Port dialog box appears.
  8. In the Add a Port dialog box, type PAS Port 80 in the Name box, and then type 80 in the Port number box.
  9. Repeat step 7 and step 8 to add a port exception that has the port number 443.

If you want to install Analytics Server on a computer that has Windows XP SP2 installed, you must install Analytics Server two times. The first installation causes an error message. However, the second installation is completed successfully.
