SYMPTOMS

When you try to compile an application by using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, you receive the following error message:

C2039 : MemberName is not a member of ClassName

Note In this error message, MemberName is a placeholder for the name of the class member. ClassName is a placeholder for the name of the class.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because scope resolution operators are used in the code for the application. Therefore, the Visual Studio .NET 2003 compiler does not perform the name lookup correctly.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
