SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Office Groove 2007 for the first time, you receive one of the following error messages in the Account Upgrade wizard:

Unable to upgrade your account
Another Windows user has already upgraded their Groove data. The upgrade process only permits one Windows user per device to upgrade their Groove account.

Unable to upgrade your account
Your Groove account is incomplete. This can be caused by a failed upgrade attempt, by uninstalling a previous version of Groove or by another user upgrading their Groove account. For further details contact support.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if more than one user created Groove Virtual Office 3.x accounts by using different Microsoft Windows accounts. If multiple Windows users have Groove accounts, the Groove account of the user who first runs Groove 2007 will be upgraded. Other users cannot access their Groove accounts.

The Account Upgrade wizard detects multiple Windows accounts. Additionally, the wizard warns the first user that other Groove accounts on the computer will be damaged if the user upgrades or deletes his or her account. However, the user can ignore this warning.

Note The Account Upgrade wizard also cannot upgrade your account for other reasons when the wizard finds a partial Groove account. If another Windows user has not already upgraded a Groove account, see the "More Information" section.

WORKAROUND

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

If the Account Upgrade wizard reports that another user has already upgraded a Groove account, you can only delete your account, and then create a new one. You cannot start Groove 2007 until you create a new account.

If you are sure that another user has upgraded or deleted a Groove account, delete your Groove account. Then, create a Groove account. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Delete the following registry subkeys if they exist:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Groove.OldData
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\Groove Networks, Inc.
  3. Delete the Groove account data folder. If you accepted the default folders when you installed Groove Virtual Office, the Groove account data folder is in the following location:

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Groove Networks\

  4. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  5. At the command prompt, type cd Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12, and then press ENTER.
  6. At the command prompt, type GrooveClean.exe –all, and then press ENTER.
  7. Start Groove 2007 to create a new account.

MORE INFORMATION

The following conditions may cause a partial Groove account:

  • File deletions or file corruption in a Groove data directory
  • Account corruption from a beta version of Groove 2007
  • Incomplete removal of Groove 1.x or of Groove Workspace 2.x
