You cannot install a 2007 Office suite after you change the name of the Setup program in a 2007 Office suite network installation point

Article ID: 927594

Article Last Modified on 10/15/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007
  • Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007
  • Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007
  • Microsoft Office Professional 2007
  • Microsoft Office Standard 2007
  • Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007
  • Microsoft Office Basic 2007

SYMPTOMS

In a 2007 Microsoft Office suite network installation point, you change the name of the Setup program (Setup.exe) to another name, such as Install.exe. When you try to use the renamed Setup program to install a 2007 Office suite from the network installation point, a Browse For Folder dialog box appears. Then, you are prompted to locate a valid installation source. If you click Cancel because you cannot find a valid installation source, the Setup program will exit.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because 2007 Office suites do not support the renaming of the Setup program. The 2007 Office installation files are coded to look for a program that is named Setup.exe. These files fail when that program is not present.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must change the Setup program name back to Setup.exe. If you change the Setup program name back to Setup.exe when the Browse For Folder dialog box is open, you will be able to continue to install the 2007 Office suite.

Note To rename the Setup program, you must have administrative permissions to the network installation point.
