This article describes the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issue that is fixed in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package that is dated October 27, 2006.

INTRODUCTION

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

  • The content of a SharePoint Portal Server Web site is crawled. If the portal content contains a very long URL, the crawl is not finished. Additionally, the following error message is logged in the Application event log:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Microsoft SharePointPS Search Service
    Event Category: Gatherer
    Event ID:?
    Date: date
    Time: time
    User: N/A
    Computer: computer_name
    Description: An exception occurred. ID: 8. This is an internal error. Reproduce the error with the debugger attached and enable exceptions, then contact product support. One of the components loaded in your system is bad. You may be able to avoid the problem by recreating the index.
    Details: (0x800700ce - The filename or extension is too long. )

    Additionally, you may receive the following error message in the Mssearch.xml file:
