Services are not detected after you perform a DVB-T channel scan for services from Moscow or from Kiev in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 or in Windows Media Center in Windows Vista

Article ID: 927337

Article Last Modified on 2/9/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
  • Windows Vista Home Premium
  • Windows Vista Ultimate

SYMPTOMS

When you perform a DVB-T channel scan for services in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 or in Windows Media Center in Windows Vista, you may experience any of the following symptoms:

  • When you scan for services in Moscow, and you select Russia as the country, no services are detected.
  • When you scan for services in Moscow, and you select Germany as the country, nine services are detected from Moscow.
  • When you scan for services in Kiev, and you select Ukraine as the country, no services are detected.
  • When you scan for services in Kiev, and you select Germany as the country, five services are detected from Kiev.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because production DVB-T services were unavailable and had not been tested by Microsoft for Russia or for Ukraine. Therefore, no official DVB-T frequency table exists for Russia or for Ukraine, and Media Center uses an Eastern European DVB-T frequency table.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, select Germany as the country when you perform a DVB-T channel scan for services. When you switch to a Western European locale and to a DVB-T frequency table such as Germany, Media Center may be able to match more closely the frequencies that the DVB-T providers use in the Russian and the Ukrainian regions.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
