SYMPTOMS
When a document in Microsoft Office Word 2007 contains a picture, Word may use more memory than expected.
CAUSE
This issue may occur when the Save preview picture option or the Save Thumbnail option is enabled, and when one or more of the following conditions are true:
- The picture is a high resolution picture.
- A printer driver is installed that is set to print at a high resolution.
- The Save AutoRecovery information option in Word is enabled.
- You apply an effect to the picture.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, disable the Save preview picture option or the Save Thumbnail option.
To do this, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for the operating system that you are running.
Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003
- Click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Prepare, and then click Properties.
- Click Document Properties, and then click Advanced Properties.
- On the Summary tab, click to clear the Save preview picture check box, and then click OK.
Windows Vista
In Windows Vista, you can disable the option when you save the document, or you can disable the option in the document properties.
How to disable the option when you save the document
- Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Save As.
- Click to clear the Save Thumbnail check box.
- Click Save.
How to disable the option in the document properties
- Click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Prepare, and then click Properties.
- Click Document Properties, and then click Advanced Properties.
- On the Summary tab, click to clear the Save Thumbnail for All Word Documents check box, and then click OK.
