SYMPTOMS

When you maximize a Microsoft Office Word 2007 window on a Windows Vista-based computer, the following buttons may stop responding:

  • The Minimize button
  • The Restore button
  • The Close button


CAUSE

This problem may occur if an outdated video driver is installed on the computer. For example, this problem may occur if a driver from nVidia Corporation that is dated 2003 or earlier is installed on the computer. This problem does not occur with drivers from NVidia that are dated later than 2003.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, contact the manufacturer of the computer's video card to obtain an updated driver for Windows Vista.

WORKAROUND

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.You can work around this problem if the following conditions are true:

  • An nVidia video card is installed in the computer.
  • A newer driver for the video card is unavailable.

To work around this problem, remove the nView program from the computer. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Start Registry Editor. To do this, click Start[GRAPHIC: Start button], type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click Regedit in the Programs list.
  2. Expand the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

  3. Right-click Nwiz, and then click Delete.
  4. Exit Registry Editor.
