A security warning appears on the Message Bar in Word 2007 even if the document does not contain macros

SYMPTOMS

When you open an existing document or create a new document in Microsoft Office Word 2007, a security warning appears on the Message Bar. You experience this symptom even if the document does not contain macros.

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • You previously opened a document that contained macros.
  • You received a security warning on the Message Bar.
  • You did not click Options to enable macros or to disable macros.


CAUSE

This problem occurs because the security warning appears on the Message Bar until you enable or disable macros.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, click Options to enable macros or to disable macros. After you enable or disable macros, the security warning does not appear on the Message Bar unless the current document contains macros.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
