SYMPTOMS

You try to install the Spanish language version of Microsoft Windows System Resource Manager (WSRM) on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003. This computer is already running an earlier version of WSRM. When you do this, you receive the following error message:

Ya hay una instalada otra versión de Administrador de recursos del sistema de Windows en un idioma distinto. Debe desinstalar la versión existente utilizando Agregar o quitar programas antes de instalar esta versión de Administrador de recursos del sistema de Windows.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an error in the Spanish language version of the Wsrm.msi installer program. This error prevents the installer program from recognizing previously installed versions of WSRM.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, uninstall the previously installed version of WSRM. Then, install the new version of WSRM.

Note The uninstall process does not automatically save the current policies and other WSRM information. To save the WSRM information, export the information to a folder before you uninstall the earlier version of WSRM. Then, import the information from the folder after you install the new version of WSRM. Additionally, you must back up the accounting data before you uninstall WSRM. The accounting data is in the following file:

%SystemRoot%\System32\Windows System Resource Manager\JetDB\Wsrm.edb

To install the new version of WSRM, and to maintain the existing WSRM information and accounting data, follow these steps.

Step 1: Export the existing WSRM information

  1. Click Start, click Run, type Wsrm.msc, and then click OK.
  2. In the left pane, right-click the Windows System Resource Manager node, and then click Export WSRM Information.
  3. In the Export WSRM Information dialog box, in the Location text box, specify a location where you want to store the exported WSRM information, and then click OK.

Step 2: Back up the accounting data

  1. Type the following command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

    net stop wsrm

  2. Copy the Wsrm.edb file to a different location. To do this, type the following command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

copy %SystemRoot%\System32\Windows System Resource Manager\JetDB\wsrm.edb TempDir

Note In this command, TempDir is the location where you want to save the file.

Step 3: Uninstall the existing WSRM

  1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Click the Change or Remove Programs tab, click Windows System Resource Manager, and then click Remove.

Step 4: Install the new WSRM

  1. Insert the WSRM CD into the CD or DVD drive.

The Readme.htm page opens.

Note If the Readme.htm page does not open, double-click the Readme.htm file. This file is located in the root directory of the CD.

  1. Click the appropriate Setup link, depending on the operating system that you use.
  2. Follow the instructions in the Setup wizard to complete the installation.

Step 5: Restore the accounting data

  1. Type the following command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

    net stop wsrm

  2. Restore the WSRM accounting data. To do this, type the following command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

    copy TempDir\wsrm.edb %SystemRoot%\System32\Windows System Resource Manager\JetDB

Note In this step, TempDir represents the location where you saved the Wsrm.edb file in the "Step 2: Back up the accounting data" section.
  3. Type the following command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

    net start wsrm

Step 6: Import the WSRM information into the new WSRM

  1. Click Start, click Run, type Wsrm.msc, and then click OK.
  2. In the left pane, right-click the Windows System Resource Manager node, and then click Import WSRM Information.
  3. In the Import WSRM Information dialog box, in the Location text box, specify the location where you exported the WSRM information, and then click OK.
  4. When you receive a warning message, click Yes to confirm that you will override the existing WSRM information.
