927878 Description of the Windows SharePoint Services post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package: November 9, 2006

Hotfix information

After you apply hotfix 927878, you can disable the scanning of documents by your antivirus program when you perform a full crawl or an incremental crawl of a Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 server. To do this, you must use the Stsadm.exe command-line tool.

Hotfix 927878 adds a new Stsadm.exe property that is named avskipsearchcrawl. The default value of the avskipsearchcrawl property is set to no. By default, the property is disabled.

To prevent the scanning of documents by your antivirus program during the crawl process, enable the avskipsearchcrawl property. To do this, type the following command line:

stsadm -o setproperty -pn avskipsearchcrawl -pv yes

To allow for the scanning of documents by your antivirus program during the crawl process, disable the avskipsearchcrawl property. To do this, type the following command line:

stsadm -o setproperty -pn avskipsearchcrawl -pv no

You do not have to restart any services after you enable or disable the avskipsearchcrawl property.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
