Notice

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

This article describes the following about this hotfix release:

  • The issues that are fixed by this hotfix package
  • The prerequisites for installing the hotfix package
  • Whether you must restart the computer after you install the hotfix package
  • Whether you must make any registry changes
  • The files that are contained in the hotfix package

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You browse a cube in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services database in SQL Server Management Studio, or you query the cube from a client application. The cube uses a .NET managed provider to connect to a relational database from a SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services database. The source relational database contains a column that contains decimal values. You query for the sum total of the column. If the number of rows that are returned is large, the sum total of a column contains incorrect data.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of an internal rounding error in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. The internal rounding error occurs during processing operations that involve decimal measure values when you use a .NET managed provider.

Restart information

You have to restart the computer if the installer has to replace files that are being used. To avoid restarting the computer, you must close all the SQL Server Analysis Services tools and clients. Additionally, you must stop Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) if the server is configured to provide HTTP access. If you have installed SQL Server Analysis Services as a named instance, you must also stop the SQL Server Browser service because the Msmdredir.dll component of the SQL Server Browser service is updated during the hotfix installation.

Registry information

You do not have to change the registry.
