SYMPTOMS
When you try to install a 16-bit program in Windows Vista from a mapped network drive, you may receive an error message that prompts you to insert the setup disk into the drive.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the mapped network drive is not valid from the context of the account that is used to install the program. For example, the issue can occur in the following scenario:
- You create a mapped network drive that contains the installation files for the program.
- You start the installation for the program.
- You are prompted for an administrator password.
- You type your password and then click Continue.
In this scenario, the installation starts in the context of the administrator account. However, the network drive was not mapped for the administrator account. Therefore, the setup files can no longer be found, and the installation cannot continue.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, copy the installation folder from the mapped network drive to a local folder on the computer, and then start the installation.
Alternatively, log on as the local administrator of the computer, and then start the installation from the mapped network drive.
